ZIGHY BAY, OMAN

You will find Zighy Bay on the northern Musandam Peninsula in the Sultanate of Oman. Six Senses chain is known for its luxurious 5-star standard, and this resort is no different. This oasis in the middle of the desert is pure heaven, and you can see why it has this resort is continually being recommended as one of the best hotels in the middle east.

Things to know before you go to Zighy Bay

Location 

 Hidden amongst Oman’s the Musandam Peninsula, this unique location with its crystal clear water, and white romantic sandy beach is only a 2-hour drive from Dubai. 

Weather 

High season is from October to May, the days are warm and the nights are cooler, which is the perfect temperature for all of the activities offered in and around the resort.

Things not to bring 

As you enter the border by car, your bags will be randomly be inspected on arrival. So remember you are not allowed to bring drones or alcohol into Oman; this includes duty-free.

What to pack 

Although Oman is a conservative country this resort, however, is tucked away in a remote location which allows you to enjoy the beach as you would anywhere else in the world. If you intend to enjoy one of the resorts tours, then I would suggest you pack clothes that you would wear around other places in Oman.

I was surprised how cold the nights can be, so something light to cover at night would also be recommended.

Getting to Zighy Bay

The hotel can arrange transportation for you from Dubai International Airport or a hotel in Dubai. There is no visa needed for this part of Oman, but they will require a copy of your passport three working days ahead of your stay. The passport information is necessary for the hotel to obtain a border pass on entry. 

Visa

If you are unsure whether you need a visa or not, you should check ivisa as it takes the stress out of searching the embassy information. It is a one-stop-shop for all visa enquiries.

Arrival and check-in

The entry to this Six Senses is not your regular arrival; there are few ways in which you may arrive at this luxury resort. Paragliding – Yes, this is not for the faint-hearted (like myself) that may be afraid of heights. This unique way of landing at the hotel gives you a birds-eye view (literally) of this beautiful place. You can also head to the hotel via car or speed boat.

GUEST EXPERIENCE MAKER (GEM) 

They are not only butler’s but the people that make your time at Six Senses that little bit more special. They seem to be there when you least expect it.

We were so lucky to have such a great GEM, who was not only exceptional in his customer service but also knowledgeable, funny and was able to make you feel more welcome than most Butlers at other resorts.

THE VILLA 

There is nowhere in the world (to date) that was quite like it. It felt like we stepped back in time (way-way-way back in time), and I was sure that a donkey was about to enter the village, with a young couple wanting refugee in our inn where purpose someone a little special might be born.

The resort was a replica of an indigenous Oman village, which was honestly incredible, and something we didn’t want to leave. Included in our villa was an outdoor courtyard with shower and massage room (yes you heard that right). 

THINGS TO DO IN ZIGHY BAY

If swimming in the beautiful aqua sea or walking along the white sand isn’t enough, then many other activities might suit you. 

SUP, Kayak and other water activities – The flat sea is the perfect place to take out any of the water toys. It is hard not to be tempted to head out for a little fun in the water when the sun is shining, and water is clear.

MICROLIGHT

Why not try your hand at this aerial experience. Check out the area high above the sky and get a birds-eye view of the beautiful surroundings.

DAILY ACTIVITIES

There are a range of daily activities to enjoy each day, some for free (yoga in the morning, for example) and then there are paid experiences such as cooking classes. There is plenty to do, on and off the resort. 

SPA

Although you have a massage room in your villa, I would suggest opting for a spa treatment, at the spa. From the service to the luxury surroundings, this is an experience you must not miss. 

FOOD IN ZIGHY BAY

Breakfast

Breakfast will not disappoint as it is in a great location and has exciting exotic food; this middle eastern breakfast buffet is fantastic. If middle eastern food isn’t your thing, don’t be too alarmed there are many western and healthy options to choose from as well.

In-Villa bbq 

This indulgent spread can be pre-ordered before you arrive and can be arranged to be cooked and served in your villa. Warning! Alcohol is expensive, so beware of the costly prices before ordering.

Other options in Zighy Bay

Whether it is lunch by the pool, dinner at the spice market or drinks at Zighy bar, all have impeccable service and delicious food. 

This place is otherworldly and definitely in the luxury travel category. It has everything you would expect (and more) of Six Senses Resort, from the service to the food I could not fault and would highly recommend it to anything thinking of going.
