There’s so much to consider when moving to another country. Especially if you’re moving abroad with a family, it doesn’t matter how organised you are; it’s still a stressful experience if you’re not on top of everything.Â
With that said, moving abroad is exciting beyond belief. However, if you’re moving your business abroad along with your family, there’s an additional layer of work and organisation to complete. Here are some of the top sticking points you might face, which you may not yet have considered.Â
There’s no doubt your move abroad will be an exciting success, but don’t let your business fall in the process.

Make Contacts Before The Move
It depends on what your business is, but in most cases, contacts are essential. Luckily, Australians are approachable, hard-working, and quite laid back in many of their business areas, so forging those contacts, it’s relatively easy.Â
You might need to zip around from one meeting to the next if you decide to move to Perth, for example, so you may consider Burswood Car Rentals to ensure you have suitable transportation. Respect people’s time. If you agree to a meeting, stick to it and remember that building these contacts are what will dictate whether your business succeeds or not.
In Australia, word of mouth and a good reputation go a long way, so getting a headstart by travelling there before your actual move will be highly beneficial.Â

Is Your Business Based Online?
If your business is based solely online, it means the move will be a bit easier. It’s better than setting up stores, restaurants or warehousing. However, it does mean you need to ensure you have a perfect connection.Â
Unfortunately, Australia’s download speed is half the global average at around 41 Mbps. This isn’t a disaster, but it’s certainly worth thinking about, especially if your online business requires a fast download speed. It means doing some research before you go. Find somewhere which has the best speed.Â
The city’s with the best download speed in Australia are in areas outside of major cities, such as:
- Wollongong, New South Wales: 94.31-speed score
- Geelong, Victoria: 94.26-speed score
- Gold Coast, Queensland 91.37 speed score
Some places are really off the beaten track and don’t benefit from fibre-optic broadband, so don’t make the mistake of choosing a remote area that will end up being the wrong place for an online-based business.Â
Take Note Of Local Tax Laws
Companies in Australia pay 30% corporation tax, or if you’re a smaller business, around 26%. If you’re moving to Australia from the UK, you’re going to be paying more as the UK sits on 19% at the moment.
Make sure you research the implications of moving your business to Australia from a tax point of view. It goes further than that, though. For example, you may benefit from specific grants at the moment in your current location; however, you may not be entitled to any in Australia.Â
On the flip side, by moving to Australia and employing people, there may be grants to benefit from which you don’t get where you currently are. For example, if you’re starting a new business there, many startup accelerators come in the form of grants from the government, so always make sure you do that little bit of extra research to give your business the best chance of success.
