ALL YEAR ROUND STAYCATION IDEAS

School holidays might be coming to an end but why should staycations?

It has been a year since we have travelled for leisure outside of Singapore; I am guessing by now we have exhausted all our usual staycation spots. Singapore Staycations and Singapore Daycations seem to be on everyone’s thoughts at the moment, so….

What if I was to tell you that Singapore has more to offer than the Shangri-la?

Fun holiday ideas

The Shipping Container Hotel

The Shipping Container Hotel is a unique concept and the first of its kind in Singapore to date. We have all secretly wanted to stay in a container at some point in our lives, haven’t we? Or maybe that is just me and my constant drive for adventure! Currently, there are two on offer, the first at block 77 Ayer Rajah Crescent and the second at block 81 Ayer Rajah Crescent. Sure there are no swimming pools or hotel lobbies, but there are other amenities close by, such as the basketball and futsal courts next to container one and free balls inside the container to use. (There are no bookings, so it is best in best dressed).

Things to know – They offer a gym pod. If you fancy a workout, you will need to upload the gym pod app before you arrive, and that way, you can book your timeslot.

Recommendation – Go out to eat in the neighbourhood and rediscover some old eateries of the yesteryears; however, if you fancy staying in for the evening, the containers all have a kitchenette so that you can cook dinner yourself.

Wanderlust, The Unlimited Connection by Oakwood

This hotel is the newest baby to add to the Oakwood collection, and so they are offering some great deals. The building itself was built in the 1920s, so it graces you with that old world charm as soon as you arrive. However, this hotel has that old meets new feel about it in a neighbourhood worth rediscovering, as there is plenty of things to see and do here.

Things to know – For a short time, only this hotel is offering a great deal, including a choice of several fun activities to add to your staycation experience.

Recommendation – The studio offers up to three guests, a second-story hideaway and a kitchenette, all for a great price in a neighbourhood ready to be explored.

Quirky staycation ideas

Lyf Hotel

When going on Staycation, we are looking for something a little different to everyday life, right? And now more than ever, staycations are more critical because we are looking for that vacation feel in our own backyard. So why not try something a little different? Forget mundane room, forget everything you may be expecting from some of the more well-known chains around Singapore. Think fun, cool and quirky, think co-living space! Yes, you heard correctly, think cook together, work out together and perhaps even create some great ideas together!

Things to know – Lyf Hotel has launched the ‘Hey Explorer, Make Memories with Ascott in Singapore‘ promotion supported by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), which offer guests complimentary heritage walking tours with their stay of the nine participating properties.

Recommendations: Funan is a fun place; there is plenty to entertain you for the entire weekend. Catch an alternative style play at wild Rice or, until May 23, take part in the Funan Shopping Mall’s Green movement.

The Warehouse Hotel

You may wonder why I chose this hotel, as it isn’t really quirky like the previous hotel I mentioned; however, it is a bit different. In an ideal location at Robinson Quay, this hotel has a lot of history and character. Choose from one of the fabulous rooms on offer, many have fantastic views of the river, and others like the River View Mezzanine is just a fantastic room that features a second-level reading room. I don’t think you’ll want to leave the room all weekend!

Things to knowThe Warehouse Hotel was built in 1895 and was part of the Straits of Malacca trade route. However, since it’s opened its doors in 2017, it has become part known as a beautiful historic boutique hotel.

Recommendation – Book a get your guide tour – and explore this neighbourhood and discover how far removed it is from its secret societies and red-light district past.

Affordable staycation ideas

Raffles Marina

If you want a staycation that won’t break the bank but will offer a fun weekend, then Raffles Marina is the one to choose. The rooms are basic, but they are clean and affordable and have amazing views! With a swimming pool, jacuzzi to use, along with options to fish and kayak, there is plenty to keep you busy.

Things to know – The lighthouse is beautiful day and night, so it is worth a walk around the jetty. There is a deal on, which includes fishing permit, fishing bait, storage for your catch up the day, and cooking of catch.

Recommendations: Combine your weekend with a Tiger Brewery Tour! The brewery tour includes five beer samples per person you can enjoy in the brewery’s English style pub. Although the brewery is only a 30-minute walk, I would strongly suggest you catch a taxi there.

Champion Hotel City

Do not, I repeat, do not judge a book by its cover! This hotel is not much to look at from the outside; however, walk inside, and this quirky, affordable little boutique hotel has more charm than the outside allows. There are not many room options, but it is what makes this hotel so cosy. All rooms have wifi, fridges and a heap of character. You can not dispute the value for money here, as the rooms are so affordable that you wouldn’t be able to beat the price (unless you are in a hostel) anywhere else in Singapore.

Things to know – There are double and single room options so that you can stay here as a couple or a family, especially suited to those on a budget.

Recommendation – Ideally located to many of the major tourist spots, so it is time to explore this island city. Try one of get your guide food tours in the neighbourhood.

The Classic (luxury) staycations

Raffles Hotel

The Raffles Hotels just oozes luxury and charm, and to be honest, I will never get sick of staying here (or recommending it to others). In a great location with decades of history, Raffles Hotel is always offering great deals. Raffles Hotel Singapur is known for the Sikh Doormen, unique touch to a splendid hotel experience. Your experience will feel out of this world as soon as you step into these fantastic hotel premises.

Things to know – Some restaurants at the hotel have dress codes, so check before you go. All rooms are suites. However, each suite has its own worldly charm.

Recommendation – No need to leave the hotel premises as there is enough to do to ensure that your weekend is eventful; want more information, check out my full review here.

Marina Bay Sands

Apart from Raffles Hotel, Marina Bay Sands is probably the most well-known hotel in Singapore. From its unique boat-like shape to its international recognised instagrammable infinity pool, Marina Bay Sands is a must on your bucket list of things to tick off this year in Singapore.

Things to know: Book by June 14 2021 (but Stay between March 1 and July 31), and you will receive a complimentary room upgrade, valet parking for one car, early check-in, Sustainability and Art Guided tour and free entry to the SkyPark Observation Deck.

Recommendation – For a bit of a weekend treat, book in at Spago Dining Room. The menu is extensive, the service is welcoming, and the ambience has a little bit of that old-world charm.

Family Friendly

Changi Cove

Why not stay as far away from the city as possible? That is what getting away is all about, isn’t it? Changi Cove is located in the perfect location for enjoying the peace and, of course, exploring the nature that surrounds it. All rooms are clean and equipped with a coffee machine, and there is ample space to park in the hotel. When it comes to things to do in the area, there are plenty! Take a walk along the Changi Boardwalk or grab a bite to eat at Changi Village.

Things to know -All rooms allow you to write on them, have a little bit of fun with the family, there is also a pool and a restaurant so you won’t need to leave the hotel if you don’t want to.

Recommendation – Spend the day out at Pulau Ubin, where you can walk to the ferry pier in approximately 30 minutes. You can find out more about what to do on Pulau Ubin here.

W Hotel Sentosa Cove

When you think of The W Hotel chain worldwide, you wouldn’t typically suggest it as a “family-friendly” recommendation. However, here in Singapore, there are copious amounts of children in and around this hotel all year round! Once you step into the doors of The W Hotel, you can see why! It is a kid magnet for sure! With its bright, eccentric colours and its wacky interior, this hotel is one of a kind!

Things to know – Don’t let the droves of children fool you; this is also an excellent location for couples, and The W Hotel is offering a mini getaway for two, which includes daily breakfast, a $50 hotel credit and a bottle of champagne. Or choose the wellness package, which includes breakfast, detox welcome amenities, 45-minute spa treatment per adult, yoga session and 2-hour bi-pedal bicycle or segways for two people.

Recommendation- If you haven’t already explored this part of Sentosa Island, then now is your time. There are some great restaurants to choose from and a great place to explore on foot. If exploring on your own doesn’t feel like an actual holiday, then book a guided tour here.

Romantic Getaway

Amara Sanctuary

There are plenty of hotels and resorts in Singapore that I could add to this category. However, I wanted to add one that was slightly different from the rest. Spending time on Sentosa Island always feels like a holiday anyway, so why not add to it by spending time in a hotel that isn’t overrun with families. Amara Sanctuary is tucked away, far enough to believe that you are on a resort holiday, far removed from Singapore.

Things to know – There are currently some special deals on at the time of writing. It is worth checking them out before you book. The two-room choices for a romantic getaway are the Courtyard suite with jacuzzi and the couple suite with direct access to the pool. Both are gorgeous rooms, but it depends on what you prefer.

Recommendation– If you want to spend the weekend just hanging around the hotel, well it is possible to do that; however, if you are like me and want to explore, then this is a great time to discover this part of Sentosa, and it’s surroundings down at Palawan beach.
