The W Sentosa

About Sentosa Cove

Sentosa Island was once used as a Japanese prisoner of war camp for when the British surrendered to the Japanese. However, today Sentosa Cove has more than 2,000 oceanfront (luxurious) houses and apartments. Although this is also part of Sentosa Island, the feel is different because it is a residential area.

Sentosa Cove covers 117 hectares; however, it comprises mostly reclaimed land, including five man-made islands. The islands are Coral Island, Paradise Island, Treasure Island, Sandy Island and Pearl Island.

Although Sentosa Island has plenty of accommodation choices, Sentosa

Cove only has two accommodation choices; the first being ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove and secondly The W Hotel Sentosa Cove.

How to get to Sentosa Cove

Hire cars and taxi services are plentiful in this small island country; all you need to tell them is The W Hotel, and you can be whisked away to the front of the lobby for your weekend staycation. And until September 2021, entrance into Sentosa Island is free. However, there are other ways to get there these include:

  • The complimentary orange bus that starts at Beach Station service runs from 7 am to 940pm daily.
  • Sentosa Cove shuttle bus runs from HarbourFront Bus Interchange and runs from 630am to 1030 pm during peak hours.
  • MRT north-east line (purple) or circle line (orange) to HarbourFront station. Here you can either walk there via the Sentosa Boardwalk or catch the Sentosa Express.
  • Sentosa Express (monorail) will take you to several stations on Sentosa but not Sentosa Cove, so you will need to walk or catch the bus from Beach station.

The W Sentosa Cove Review

The W Hotel is part of The Marriott Bonvoy points program, which I highly recommend. I have been part of the Marriott points system for over ten years, and I can recommend first-hand that it is the best hotel points system in Asia (I am a member of quite a few). The inclusion of hotels like The W, The Westin and St Regis Hotels and Resorts has made the investment in this program a little bit sweeter!

Things to know before you stay at The W, Sentosa Cove

Although the W chain is known for its adult partying vibe (I have visited a few, and I can vouch it is true), somehow, Singapore’s version seems to have more children floating around than others. I think it’s something worth mentioning if you have a preconceived view of the place before you arrive.

Check before you arrive if any of the facilities might be closed (we arrived when the gyms in Singapore closed their doors, but everything else was open).

During 2020 and 2021, which restrictions in place, you will be able to book a pool slot during your stay; get in early as these are snapped up fast.

Be prepared to relax, it is not like anywhere else on Sentosa, and there is no need to rush off and find activities outside the resort. Instead, stay and enjoy all of what Sentosa Cove has to offer.

Checkin at the W Sentosa Cove

Checking in and checking out is easy, the staff are friendly, and the wait was not long. Checking out, you can choose from the express checkout or be serviced by one of the friendly hotel staff.

The W Sentosa Cove Room Review

Did someone say “spoilt!?”. We were lucky enough to take advantage of our Marriott Bonvoy points membership and booked a fantastic room with its own lap pool – yep! Loads of privacy as the beautiful surroundings allowed for enough cover to feel like we were in our own little oasis – Why thank you, W Hotel. If you want to book this room, it is called an away suite (yep, tucked away with complete privacy).

Equally surprising was the array of gorgeous treats found in our room! It did not take long for us to kick off our shoes, relax in style and devour the beautiful treats.

The bathroom was beautiful, and the lounge area had that quirky charm all W offer. The bed was soft and dreamy and made for hard to rise in the morning (too comfortable to leave).

All quirky-cool bar amenities were there for the offering (at a price, of course) and having a swing chair in the lounge area made for the best spot to sit and read a book (tried and tested by me).

Other rooms include:

  • Spectacular guest room with Marina View
  • Marvellous suites
  • Wonderful Guest Rooms
  • Fantastic suite with top floor Marina view and plunge pool
  • Wow, suite with Marina view and plunge pool, this suite is more extensive!
  • Extreme Wow (think presidential suite)

The W Sentosa Cove Facilities

You can not go past the W Hotel Sentosa without visiting the pool. These signature W hotel pools are what make this hotel chain so memorable. So sip your fruity slushy style cocktail by the side of the Wet Pool or grab a book and relax in one of the cabanas. Otherwise, you could Swim up to the wet bar (when restrictions are lifted) and enjoy your drink at the bar.

Away Spa is precisely that; it takes you far, far away as you float on a high from one of the many Spa services on offer. Choose to enjoy on your own or with your partner or friend; check out some of the spa services on offer here.

Okay, they do have a fitness centre, and although we walked past it each time we went to our room, I can not say I know first hand what is on offer. However, pressing my nose up to the glass and looking in (Yes, I really did this), the facility looked good and had all the necessary machines for a serious workout. Regular opening hours are between 7 am to 10 pm daily.

Dining at The W Sentosa Cove

When you are in a suite or a luxury room, eating in is always lovely, the 24-hour room service menu is extensive, so you will not be disappointed if you choose to spend your entire weekend inside. If you think you would instead explore the hotel dining options.

The skirt restaurant is for those who love their steaks; they know what grilling is all about. The dress code is smart casual, so think more beautiful restaurant rather than a steakhouse. Open for dinner only.

The Kitchen Table is where you will have breakfast, lunch and dinner if you choose. It is a much more family orientated, relaxed, casual dining area. I was lucky enough to enjoy a beautiful mothers day lunch here.

Woobar is a great place to stop for a drink before you head out to dinner or a lovely place to catch up for a drink with friends in the afternoon. The atmosphere is relaxed, the view is fantastic, and the staff are friendly – it is a win-win in my eyes.

MOTHERS DAY
