Melbourne Craft Beer that is now found in Singapore

ARVO drinks

Let me share a little secret…

Two beering loving friends have recently launched an exciting new business. Think Independent Australian craft beer, think exciting new flavours, think cool new labelling and think craft beer supplier.

ARVO drinks mission is to bring you the best independent Australian craft beer, never before available in Singapore, so you can experience new flavours and create new memories with your mates – and I think they have nailed the brief. Working with many different brewing company’s they seem to have understood the Asian beer market and chosen well.

Why Craft Beer?

After interviewing one half of this exciting new brand (you can find the story about Laura Whitton here), I can see why ARVO drinks have taken off as it has and why the Singapore market is perfect for this new exciting brand.

Singapore’s all-year tropical weather compliments the beer scene here in Singapore nicely. Whether it is out cruising around on a boat, sitting by the pool or spending the weekend at a barbeque with friends, you can not go past an icy cold beer. With many new flavours to choose from, you are sure to find something for everyone and here is why.

ARVO DRINKS

ARVO is an Australian abbreviation for the afternoon. So ARVO drinks are just that; having a beer in the afternoon. The perfect concept for an independent craft beer.

Arvo represents Independent Australian Breweries with a varying selection of 35 beers currently in stock. They are constantly adding more Breweries and beers all the time.

ARVO represents many Australian breweries, all with award-winning beers, including several in the 2021 GABS ‘Hottest 100’ awards. The range of partnerships is ever-growing as they expand the representation throughout Australia. So it is pretty exciting that they are bringing it here to Singapore for us all to try.

The Craft Breweries

Burnley

Burnley started a little over three years ago, and it hasn’t looked back. Having a head brewer who is German Australian pretty much speaks for itself. Being named best new brewery in 2019 (but the awards haven’t stopped there) has put this Melbourne brewery on the map. Burnley’s mission is to combine traditional German beer-making with Melbourne funk, so flavours like xxx pretty much can speak for itself.

My recommendation  Burnley Neipa is packed with Citra and Mosaic hops and looks exactly like a rainbow paddle pop (an Aussie icon).

Stomping Ground

Stomping Ground Brewery is forever changing range of beers. Based in Collingwood, Melbourne, Australia, this company has delicious craft beer and doing what it can for the environment. With Aluminium cans that are 100% and infinitely recyclable. They also send an impressive 100% of their spent grain after the brew to a cattle farm. With exciting flavours such as Guava & Watermelon Smash and watermelon smash sour beer is the perfect afternoon drink.

My recommendation: Passionfruit tart sour is a Gose style beer packed with real passion fruits; who knew the combination could taste so good.

Bodriggy

Bodriggy is one of the new kids on the block (2018), launching in the very cool area of Abbotsford, Melbourne, Australia. This very cool brewery has an intriguing range of beers. With pale ales to dark ales and everything in between, this brewery has a little bit of something for all types of pallets.

My recommendation –The Fuzzy Dance explosion hazy tropical sour with tastes of candied mango, pineapple and a subtle hint of kveik (Norwegian) yeast which somehow makes it the perfect blend.

Bad Shepherd

This dynamic husband and wife team know how to do fine craft beer the right way. They take care in what they produce, and the end product (and their multiple awards) shows this. The Bad Shepherds motto is “leading you into temptation”, which they are doing nicely. With crazy flavours that somehow work well (who knew Peanut butter porter could even be a thing), this brewery does it all.

My recommendation – I will go simple on this one and go Bad Shepheard tiny IPA, it might be light on alcohol content, but it is huge in flavour. With citrus hop aromas and fruity malt flavours, this little pale ale is a keeper.

Boatrocker

As the founders of Australia’s first barrel room and cellar door, Boatrocker aims to offer a unique experience at the source and offer a positive online experience. The Boatrocker Brewers and Dillstilleries founded back in 2009, so they know their stuff. Although they have been in the business for some time, perfecting their art in craft beer and continuing their love and passion for brewing beer, it wasn’t until late 2017 that they became Boatrocker Brewers & Distillers, and the rest is history.

My Recommendation: Miss Pinky is perfectly refreshing with Australian raspberries added to the mix, with a distinct raspberry aroma and a refreshing tart finish; this is the perfect addition on a hot, humid day.
